Isese: Lagos declares public holiday for Isese day

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, has approved Monday, August 21, 2023 as a work free day to mark the traditional worshippers day.

The development is historic and rights groups have hailed the jesture of the Government

The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the state head of service, Hakeem Muri Okunola.A copy of the statement was made available to Irohinodua.

The decision of the state Government is seen as a significant step in promoting religious plurality and freedom of expression in West Africa’s biggest economy

Okunola said the approval of the holiday would allow Lagos state civil servants who are steadfast in traditional worship to observe their work free day without any fear.

In a circular with Ref. No:
CIR/HOS/23/Vol.1/066, “It is hereby notified for general information that this Year’s Isese Day celebration will hold on Sunday, 20th August, 2023.
“In restating its commitment to continue to provide necessary support to traditional institutions in the State with a view to promoting our indigenous culture and tradition while preserving our heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has graciously declared Monday, 21 August, 2023, a Work Free Day for Public Servants in the State. Work will therefore resume on Tuesday, 22 August at 8a.m prompt”.
