Finally, Fubara loses out at Supreme Court

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and his team have lost out in the political tussle for the control of politics in Rivers State.

The Supreme Court has affirmed the judgment of a Federal High Court.

Henceforth, the Federal Government is barred from releasing funds through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation.

The implication is that economic sanctiona have now been imposed on Fubara puting him at a disadvantage politically and economically.

It also means the FG is barred from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers state.

By the judgment, the legally recognised parliament in Rivers is the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly and other elected members of the Assembly who have now been empowered to resume activities.

With the Judgment, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Nyeson Wike has technically defeated the State Governor and his faction.

The two factions have been at loggerheads for since last year over who has the constitutional right to run the state after an election that both parties had united to win.

The Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers assembly is aligned with Nyesom Wike.
