FG appoints First Female DSS Deputy Director General

The Federal Government has announced the appointment of the first Director General for the Directorate of State Security Services, (DSS)
President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment on Tuesday.
The Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) is Mrs Folashade Adekaiyaoja.
She is the first female to emerge as DG of the DSS.Adekayayaoja is from Kogi State.
Adekaiyaoja, who hails from Kogi state, is the first female operative of the DSS to occupy the position.
The new DSS Deputy Director is said to have put in over 25 years in the secret service.
“She is known for her diligence, her strength of character and her commitment to excellence,” a retired DSS official who does not wish to be named told Irohinoodua on Wednesday.
Speaking with our correspondent, Farouk Abdullahi who served in the defunct Nigerian Security Organisation, (NSO) said the choice must have been informed by merit.
“One thing that must never be compromised is merit. I know the new Deputy DG very well. She is one of the best in the service. Our appointment will motivate women to serve the country apart from asserting global best practices that appointments should be based on merit and not discrimination against excellent people on the basis of gender.”
The presidency was said to have conducted an extensive background checks before announcing the appointment.
