Canada support global biodiversity framework fund with $200m
Indigenous peoples from 185 countries attend historic Canada event

The government of Canada has announced its contribution of $200 million to global diversity framework fund.
The significant contribution is to help halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
The announcement was made by the Minister of International Development, Honourable Ahmed Hussen, at the ongoing 7th Global Environmental Facilities (GEF) on Friday in Vancouver.
The announcement was made available to Irohinoodua correspondent billed to attend related events November this year in Dubai.
The seventh GEF assembly started on Tuesday, August 22, in Vancouver, with the attendance of world leaders and indigenous people from 185 countries.
One of its main purpose is to create critical source of funding for the protection of endangered species and their ecosystems.
However, for many years now, the government of Canada has taken the lead, significant and urgent actions to address the global climate crisis.
Recall that last year December at the 15th conference of the parties (COP15) in Montreal, delegates has committed to create global biodiversity framework fund to help protect biodiversity and put nature on the path of recovery.
Today, the fund has been launched in Vancouver at the seventh GEF assembly which happens once in every four years.
According to Hon. Ahmed Hussen, said the global framework fund will help to mobilize néw resources and support developing countries around the world in protecting biodiversity.
“The GBFF will quickly mobilize new resources and disburse them to developing countries to support their efforts to protect and restore nature and grow resilient economies” He said.
“Canada is providing an additional $22.8 million in funding for the GEF’s Eighth Replenishment to further support the GEF’s efforts to tackle the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. This additional funding builds on Canada’s initial contribution of $219 million to the GEF’s Eighth Replenishment, which was announced at COP15 and highlights Canada’s continued dedication to real action that will help end global biodiversity loss” He added.
The GEF Assembly continues until Saturday, August 26.
