Yoruba lady begins road drive from London to Lagos, bid to set record

A courageous Yoruba lady, Pelumi Nubi is going to drive from London to Lagos, Nigeria, by road using her car.

The 29-year old adventurer has visited more than 80 countries across six continents.

Pelumi who is a UK-based Yoruba lady is said to be about to break a world class record.

Earlier, Kunle Adeyanju, another Yoruba man had set record when he embarked on a solo trip from London to Lagos in 2022.

Pelumi is expected to traverse 17 different countries in two months on her way from London to her home country by road.

She said one of her aims is to inspire courage and self confidence in women.

She will be driving from very difficult landscapes including the Sahara Desert where the Tuareg armed groups have dominion.

She speaks “As a traveller, I wanted to do something quite adventurous. It was something that was in the books for me. We also don’t see a lot of solo black female travellers. It’s just like, representation matters. It’s important to see people do things and just open your minds to what’s possible. Some people don’t know it’s possible to go through London to Lagos by road.”

She mentioned during her interview that the entire trip will cost $15,000 – $20,000, covering fuel, accommodation and other essential needs.

Her transatlantic journey begins from England and take her through France, Spain, Morocco, West Sahara Desert, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and finally, to Lagos.

Irohinoodua was informed that she is expected to arrive in Lagos at the end of March.
