Newsbreak: Biden pledges $100m humanitarian aid to Palestine

By Samuel Ogunsona

The United States of America President, Joe Biden, has pledged to support Gaza and West Bank with $100 million.

This came after Gaza hospital bomb incidence that led to over 500 deaths.

He made the announcement via his X official account on Wednesday, monitored by Irohinoodua.

Biden said “I just announced $100 million for humanitarian assistance in Gaza and the West Bank. This money will support over 1 million displaced and conflict-affected Palestinians. And we will have mechanisms in place so this aid reaches those in need – not Hamas or terrorist groups,”.

However, the ongoing conflict between Palestine led by the Hamas group and Israel started October 7, 2023, when Hamas military group launched about 5,000 rockets from the Gaza strip against Isreal.

Biden who condemned Hamas attack that led to the conflict between both countries announced his arrival in Israel to show empathy.

The US is an ally of Israel and has sustained friendly relationships with many Middle East countries hostile to Israel.

He said, “My team and I have touched down in Israel to stand in solidarity with the Israeli people following Hamas’s terrorist attack.”

About 1,400 Israelis were killed at the time of attack with their soldiers being held captive.

The massacre at the “Supernova Sukkot Gathering” dance music fest outside the Re’im kibbutz became the deadliest concert attack in history.

In response to Hamas rocket fire, Israeli forces have relied mostly on retaliatory bombardment, and the protection of its Iron Dome air-defence system. Ground units have entered Gaza only reluctantly.
