Coronavirus scare as Chinese man collapses on Lagos Street
By Aduke Abayomi
There was pandemonium in Lagos today following the collapse of a Chinese man amidst Coronavirus fears
The Chinese was seen struggling to rise to his feet as passersby distanced themselves for fear of contracting the virus. Some even cursed the Chinese who was sweating as he battled to rise to his feet
The CONVID-19 was first discovered in Wuhan, China. The Asian country has responded with rare determination bringing the number of new infections to near zero.
Nigeria is home to thousands of Chinese many of who went home during the Chinese New year but had largely returned to Nigeria before the large-scale outbreak
The Lagos incidence has raised questions about public health issues in Nigeria. Why the victim’s friend struggled to lift up his Comrade, the helpless on-lookers jeered at the fatigued man whereas the prospect of immediate arrival of medical assistance remains nil.
There have been grave concerns that Nigeria may not be able to manage the pandemic given her weak institutions and a crowd culture that dominates the business and social traditions.
‘We called the helpline. The LASG responded. We hope the Chinese was eventually picked by the health officials’ Irene Ehonwa who lives in the area of the incidence told Irohinoodua today.
