FG Shutdown 52 Radio, TV stations, AIT, STV affected

The licenses of 52 Television and Radio stations have been revoked.

The offense of the broadcasting stations is their refusal to pay up debts they owe the Federal Government to the tune of N2.6b

The Nigerian authority on Friday instructed the total shutdown of 52 stations.

Some of those affected were Africa Independent Television (AIT), Silverbird Television (STV) and 50 other broadcasting stations.

The ban is to be enforced in the next 24hours beginning from Friday.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Director General, Malam Baalarabe Shehu Ilelah, in Abuja on Friday told journalists.

Irohinoodua is aware Malam Balarabe said the commission have directed to revoke the license of the affected 52 broadcasting stations over the debt which has been owed since 2015.

According to him, he’d said the station has been owning for the past seven years who were yet to renew their broadcasting license and sometime in May, the commission gave them two weeks to do the needful.

Balarabe who said some stations are still yet to pay their outstanding debt also used the medium to call on all Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) to register with the commission to avoid sanctions.
