According to information made available to Irohinoodua the suspects are alleged members of Boko Haram/Islamic State for West Africa Province, (ISWAP).

They already have a training camp in Osun State where their cadres were being trained on how to manufacture and detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

A reliable security source told Irohinoodua that two of the suspects were trained in Algeria and Somalia while their focus included establishing a network in the South West and also to recruit massively in preparation for sustainable attacks on the region. The source commended the DSS for its new leadership but cautioned that more terrorists’ sleeping cells may exist across the South West.

The Court granted the DSS the right to detain the suspects for another 60 days while investigation continued.

The DSS obtained the Court order from a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Court ordered the detention of the 10 individuals.

The DSS said information available indicated that the suspects were planning to establish a Boko Haram cell in Osun State.

In his ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite granted an ex-parte application filed by the Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) the power to hold the 10 suspects without trial for two months.

The suspects are identified as Adamu Abubakar (aka Abu Aisha), Babagana Bashuli, Muhammed Adam, Mustapha Abacha, Katuru Muhammed, Babakura Mallam Abacha, Muhammed Ciroma, Ali Gambo, Muhammed Umoru, and Muhammed Bundi.

Intelligence at the disposal of the applicant revealed that the respondents were planning to launch a Boko Haram/ISWAP cell in Osun State,” the security agency said.

The DSS informed the court that the suspects fled from Sambisa Forest following sustained military operations against terrorist factions. It further argued that their release would undermine efforts to apprehend other members of the group.

Justice Nwite granted the agency’s request and adjourned the matter until March 3 for mention.

The DSS also detained two suspects for 60 days. They were arrested on Dec. 19, 2024, in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area of Osun.

The DSS said they are linked to a Moroccan terrorist currently in the custody of Spanish authorities.

The DSS said the Moroccan terrorist had been relating with the suspects for over 10 months to coordinate a jihadist communication plan and to source weapons for coordinated attacks in Nigeria.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects admitted ownership of GSM numbers used to communicate with the Moroccan terrorist,” the agency said.

Justice Nwite granted the application and adjourned the case until March 3 for further mention.
