Alex Ikwechegh, Member of the House of Rep who beat up bolt driver

A member of the House of Representaives,
Alex Ikwechegh has apologised to Nigerians saying his behavior fell short of the standard expected of him.
In a statement made available to Irohinoodua, he said the issue was a deeply disturbing incident that occurred at his.
The lawmaker had assaulted a Bolt driver named Mr Steven Abuwatseye several times boasting that he would pay N50m to ensure the common man was “deleted”, a common phrase in Nigeiran that could mean assasination.
The video showed the casually dressed Senator boasting that he could do anything to the driver who had gone to deliver an item based on his request.
He admitted that he engaged in unacceptable behavior towards an Uber driver who came to deliver a waybill for him.
He said “I am deeply sorry for my actions and acknowledge that they were unacceptable and unbecoming of a public official.”
He said as a public servant, he recognized the trust placed in him by his constituents and the Nigerian people.
“My behavior fell short of the standards expected of me, and for that, I am truly sorry.”
He said he understood that his actions have caused harm and embarrassment to the driver, his constituents, and the nation at large.
“I want to assure the public that I am fully cooperating with the Nigerian Police investigation into this matter. I support their efforts to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible are held accountable. I also appreciate the swift condemnation of my actions by my party and the Nigerian Police, demonstrating our collective commitment to upholding the law and protecting the rights of all citizens.”
Commitment to Change
The lawbreaker said he is taking immediate steps to address the underlying issues that led to the incident.
“I am seeking professional counselling to ensure that such behavior never happens again. Additionally, I will be engaging in community service initiatives focused on promoting respect, empathy, and understanding.”
Call to Action
He urged all Nigerians to join him in promoting a culture of respect, tolerance, and understanding.
“We must work together to build a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect,” he said.
