Army explains recruitment scam that involves Lagos, launch probe

The Nigerian Army has explained the impersonation of Lagos State by some Army recruits.
In a viral video, some individuals from Kaduna State were seen claiming to be from Lagos backed with forged indigene certificates.
The viral video revealed fraudulent candidates during the ongoing 86 Regular Recruits Intake by the Nigerian Army.
The suspects were caught attempting to manipulate the recruitment process after securing coveted positions designated for Lagos State indigenes through dubious means.
The Nigerian Army in its reaction made available to Irohinoodua in a statement signed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu emphasized the Army’s unwavering commitment to transparency and fairness in the recruitment process, upholding the core values of integrity.
The Army stated that the video, a crucial piece of evidence, showcases the meticulous procedures put in place to ensure that only genuine indigenes are recruited.
It stated that a State Representative, a prominent member of the recruitment team, played a pivotal role in scrutinizing candidates’ claims of indigeneship and that the process aims to prevent non-indigenes from taking advantage of reserved slots for Lagos State.
“The duty of the State Representative is to identify non-indigenes amongst candidates applying for recruitment, and this is applicable in other states of the Federation,” the Army stated.
The three apprehended candidates, it said attempted to subvert the process, a serious breach that the Nigerian Army vowed not to condone.
The Army said a thorough investigation is underway to unravel the extent of the fraudulent activities and to identify any individuals or syndicates involved in the scam.
Major General Nwachukwu affirmed the Army’s dedication to recruiting only the most qualified and deserving candidates, assuring the public that those responsible for the misconduct will be held accountable. The culprits will be handed over to the appropriate prosecuting agency, as the Army remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served.
The press release concluded with a stern warning to prospective candidates, urging them to adhere to principles of honesty and integrity throughout the recruitment process. Any attempts to manipulate the system will be met with the full force of the law.
It said as the Nigerian Army continues its mission to recruit the best individuals to serve the nation, the public is encouraged to support and cooperate in maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process.
“The incident serves as a reminder that the Army remains resolute in its commitment to upholding transparency and fairness in its operations,” the Army said
