Army announces major shake-up in defence, redeploys senior officers

The Nigerian Army has announced a major shake-up in defence operations

The Army announced the redeployment of strategic officers in order to ensure greater efficiency.

The Army Headquarters on Saturday redeployed some of senior Nigerian Army.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Maj-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement made available to Irohinoodua on Saturday listed the redeployment and new appointments.

The shake-up affected the Staff Officers at Army Headquarters, General Officers Commanding, Corps Commanders, and Commandants of training institutions.

The Army said it indicated the commitment of the Army to sustain a dynamic leadership structure capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.

The Army confirmed the appointments of Maj-Gen. AGL Haruna (as GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 JTF North East Operation HADIN KAI) and Maj-Gen. IA Ajose (as GOC 8 Division/Commander Sector 2 JTF North West Operation FANSAN YANMA) have been confirmed as substantive.

The newly appointed top officers as PSOs at the Army Headquarters are, Maj-Gen. GU Chibuisi from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to the Department of Civil Military Affairs and appointed as the Chief of Civil Military Affairs; Maj-Gen. AS Ndalolo, also from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to the Department of Army Training and appointed as the Chief of Training (Army), among other PSO appointments.

Maj-Gen. LA Fejokwu was moved from the National Defence College to the Department of Army Administration and appointed as the Chief of Administration (Army);

The Army also announced the appointment of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) include Maj-Gen. OT Olatoye from the Nigerian Army School of Infantry to Headquarters 82 Division/Joint Task Force (JTF) South-East Operation UDO KA (OPUK) as the GOC 82 Division/Commander JTF OPUK; and Maj-Gen. EF Oyinlola from the Department of Military Secretary to Headquarters 3 Division as GOC 3 Division/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH).

The Army Staff directed all newly appointed senior officers to ensure renewed vigour, dedication, and commitment to their roles, especially in sustaining the ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency and other national security threats.

The Army emphasised that the welfare of troops must remain a top priority as they assume their new appointments.
