Gun fire between Nigerian soldiers and armed groups have led deaths in two digits in Abia, the Eastern Nigeria State

Irohinoodua correspondent in Umuahia heard that some armed men confronted soldiers leading to hours of gun fight that left many dead.

No fewer than 10 people were said to have died after the dust settled.

Sources said the incidence took place 8.30pm on Tuesday in the Ariaria area of Aba, the Eastern commercial city.

“The armed men confronted soldiers in the night of Tuesday. They were over 30 of them. After the confrontation, many of the armed men including soldiers were killed” a source told our correspondent.

The incidence took place in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area of the state, our correspondent was told.

The soldiers were said to have received information about the planned attack making them to lay ambush for the unsuspecting armed men.

“They are very young people. They were heavily armed. The soldiers got information about their movement and laid ambush for them” a key witness told our reporter

He said the shoot out was at the Ariaria junction on the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.
