Plateau indigenous plan mass protest against herdsmen killings

A mass protest against killings in Plateau State by herdsmen has been scheduled for Monday April 21.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Revd Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam said the mass protest will see indigenous peoples in Plateau State wear black in the procession designed to show public grievances against the killings in the Middle Belt State
Irohinoodua was informed that people from across the local governments in the State have been mobilised to attend the protest slated for Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
The peace walk, which will be the second of its kind, is a response to the recent surge in attacks on Plateau communities.
“We invite every Christian on the Plateau to come out en masse for this solemn but powerful procession,” Revd Dr. Para-Mallam said.
“We will walk for the victims. We will walk for the future. We will walk to end genocidal intent and persecution. We will walk for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
The event will begin with a one-hour prayer session at the PRTV Compound, followed by a march to the New Government House in Little Rayfield, where the participants will lay their collective grief before President Ahmed Bola Tinibu through Governor Caleb Manasseh Muftwang.
The organizers have also called for a three-day fasting and prayer period, from Saturday, April 19th, to Monday, April 21st, 2025, to seek divine intervention and guidance.
“The President should come see things for himself on the Plateau,” Revd Dr. Para-Mallam urged.
“The killings are neither communal clashes nor retaliatory but well-planned, targeted, and coordinated attacks which are sustained and unrelenting. Our nation’s leaders and Nigerians must wake up to this reality and act to stop it.”
The peace walk is expected to draw thousands of Christians from across Plateau State, all united in their demand for peace, justice, and security. As Revd Dr. Para-Mallam aptly put it, “This Peace Walk is a holy protest. It is a call for peace, justice, and security for every life on the Plateau and across Nigeria.”
