The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Mudashiru Obasa has been impeached. He was immediately replaced with Hon Mojisola Miranda representing Apapa Constituency.
Speaking with Irohinoodua, General Secretary, Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movement, (AYDM) Mr Popoola Ajayi said his impeachment was long overdue. He said he was very arrogant, ill-cultured, had no respect for anyone and full of himself.
“His impeachment is long overdue. He has no regard for anyone and barren of ideas. He fought the Governor. He fought everyone. I wonder how he emerged as the speaker in the first place.” He said the AYDM, an alliance of 130 Pan Yoruba groups fully supports his impeachment.
He was sent packing on Monday, Irohinoodua was informed.
The Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly impeached the speaker Mudashiru Obasa unanimously.
He lawmakers cite multiple statutory and financial violations.
“He is a very corrupt speaker. He has mismanaged billions of funds belonging to the state. We have tried to resolve this amicably without success” a member of the House of Assembly who does not wish to be named told Irohinoodua.
He said the lawmakers have been holding a series of meetings behind closed doors which culminated in the impeachment perfected on Monday.
Irohinoodua was informed that the impeachment may not be unconnected with Obasa’s desperation to contest the 2027 Governorship election.
Multiple sources said the former Speaker was building “castles in the air” by attempting to fund and create new political frontiers to spite the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
“He is full of himself. Against wise counsel, he has resorted to dividing the state and polarising the party for the simple fact that he wants to the next Governor of Lagos State and he wants that position by all means necessary without regard to the party leadership and the existing structure,” the source said.
Efforts to reach the speaker through his Chief Press Secretary did not succeed.
