-Says natural foods contain antioxidant content

Farmers have been urged to ditch toxic chemicals in food production and farming.
They argue that the use of corrosive substances can have devastating effects on human health.
The President of the Biochemistry Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BPAoN),
Mr. Ikotun Olayemi, gave the warning in an interview on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Lagos.
According to him, planting with these chemicals can lead to acute poisoning, long-term health consequences, and even reduced longevity.
“The effect of toxins in the body’s circulatory system is alarming,” Olayemi warned.
He said they can contaminate blood vessels and sensitive organs, causing irreparable damage.
He emphasized that the health risks associated with chemicals in food depend on the type and quantity consumed.
So, what’s the alternative? Olayemi advocates for natural farming practices, where foods are harvested in their natural state.
“Natural foods contain antioxidant content that helps the activity of body organs,” he explained.
The BPAoN is calling on regulatory agencies to educate farmers on the dangers of using toxic substances in food production.
By making informed choices, farmers can help prevent untimely deaths and promote healthier food options for consumers.
As the world shifts towards sustainable and eco-friendly practices, it’s time for farmers to rethink their methods and prioritize toxic-free farming. The consequences of inaction could be deadly.
