117 Niger Delta youths get N48m Shell Grant

Some 117 youths in the Niger Delta have been a total of N48m by Nigeria’s oil giant, Shell.
The oil company made the announcement on Sunday at the LifeWire graduation ceremony.
Irohinoodua was informed that the total number of beneficiaries of the award has increased to almost 8000.
Shell County Head of Corporate Relations, Igo Weli, said the program has the empowerment remains a boost for the livelihood of locals.
He said, “This is one opportunity to set you on the path of self-reliance and to be employers of labour as we have seen with previous beneficiaries of the programme many of whom are now employers with several others having also taken up the opportunity to play in SPDC’s supply chain as vendors,”
Dr. Gloria Udoh, the Social Investment Manager, said Shell selected individuals with good business initiatives or ideas.
Udoh said, “The 117 beneficiaries were selected from a large pool of participants who went through the entrepreneurship training; wrote their business plans and successfully pitched their business ideas.
“The expectation is that they will be able to successfully establish or expand their businesses and also enjoy the many linkage opportunities offered by SPDC,” the multibillion naira oil corporation said.
